Luke 2:14
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.
Luke 2:14
Thoughts on Today's Verse...
There is only one proper response for God's gift of Jesus — our praise and adoration. God's love, grace, favor, blessing, forgiveness, mercy, and salvation come to us through the incredible gift of Jesus. How can we not praise him? How can our hearts remain still and voices remain silent before such an incredible God? They can't, or won't, at least right now! Let's see their refusal as our reminder that we need to reach as many as possible before every knee bows and every tongue confesses that Jesus is Lord to the glory of the Father!
My Prayer...
Father, you are glorious. Your grace is marvelous. Your gift of Jesus is magnificent. All praise to you for sharing your glory and grace with us by sending Jesus, in whose name I offer you my praise. Amen.
Luke 2:11-14
“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in stripes of cloth and lying in a manger.”
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom His favor rests.”
The angel gave the shepherds two signs so as to recognize the Christ-child.
One, He would be wrapped in swaddling clothes, swaddling clothes were narrow strips of cloth used to quiet newborns, when wrapped tightly around a baby it made the baby feel more secure and calmed them down. The shepherds had more than likely seen this before, but they had never seen the very Son of God as a little baby wrapped in swaddling clothes!
Two, the baby would be found lying in a manger. I am sure the shepherds had never seen a baby lying in a manger or feeding trough before. This would indeed be very unlikely, who would ever place a baby in such a place? Let alone the Lord of glory, the Creator of all that exists, the long-awaited Messiah? But the Son of God chose the most lowly of ways to come into this world in which He formed. Even in His birth He was teaching humility! Of course He deserved to be born in a beautiful palace, with every comfort available to Him. However, that was not God’s plan.
Had we as humans orchestrated just when and where Christ would come into the world, we may think we would have afforded Him the best of places to be born. Yet we struggle to give Him first place in our hearts and lives daily! The same Christ that was deserving of the best of all places at His birth some 2000 yrs ago, still deserves first place in our hearts and lives today.
When we read verses 13 and 14, it is as if heaven’s pent up excitement finally breaks forth! Salvation has come to mankind, mankind may not yet fully understand the significance of it, but the heavenly host understood it, and they were singing their praises in response! “Glory to God in the highest” indeed, for peace had come to those in whom His favor rests. His favor rests in those who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Those whose sins are forgiven by the precious Lamb of God and His bloodshed that at this point was yet to come, but in our day has already been accomplished. For those whose faith is in Christ, there is peace in our hearts that passes all understanding, for it is God-sent and God-given!
Thank You Father God for sending Jesus, the Author and Finisher of my faith. Thank You for His precious blood that cleanses me from all unrighteousness and redeems me to You. I love you so and give You much praise this day Abba, Amen!
Thank you for your prayers for me with my Covid effects, I cannot tell you how they are appreciated! I will be posting under Grants FB account until mine is fixed. God Bless you all!
